On April 20, 2005 a child like any other was born in Egypt, in a hospital ironically called The American Hospital which seems fitting because that child grew (kinda) to be me, Seif Karim and irony plays a huge role in my life. For starters for being the most mundane there could be I share my birthday with Adolf Hitler and April 20, most commonly referred to as 420 is also National Weed Day where the drug marijuana/cannabis is celebrated, whether it legal or not it's a worldwide celebration so at least I know people are partying and probably having more fun than I am on my birthday. Getting back on track I have to mention my parents since they do play a huge role in my life. My dad's name is Karim and at one point he wanted to name me Ramadan so that my name would be Ramadan Karim but I already get alot of comments because of my name like "سيف ولاة شتة" or "سيف ولاة سكينة" so if my name were Ramadan I think things would be a lot worse. My mom's name is Riham and she wanted to name me Karim before she even met my dad so when she did marry my dad that option was kind of off the table.
Fast forward a couple of years and now I'm in Continental which was the first I've ever taken part in other than kindergarten. It's no wonder I was barely there for two years because when I was there I was literally the only kid who spoke in English so English classes was just me translating what the other kids were trying to tell our teacher who i forgot her name. First grade comes around and now I'm 6 years old and off to Elite which there I'd meet two people who are currently at CISE, Ali Fayek and Jana Sabry. I spent three years in Elite, grades one through three, but the reason I left was because the school promised a proper British system where the teachers were British and we were supposed to be following the same syllables just like the British which was of course not the case. My parents wanted me in a new school but couldn't find anything worthwhile during that time so they put me in Windrose Academy for grades 4-6. Initially I was supposed to spend a single year there but I had made plenty of friends and I honestly couldn't stand the thought of abandoning my friends again as it had become a routine. I begged my parents to let me stay there and they couldn't find any promising schools so there was no rush. I knew I couldn't stay in Windrose forever because it didn't even have clases more than grade seven and I would have been the first to experience their version of IG and it wasn't worth jeopardizing my whole future for being a first.
I ended up in CISE and I made my parents promise I wouldn't have to go through that excruciating pain of moving schools again but who knows, in two years I could be writing an essay in a different school about this very process. While I'm not exactly happy that I had to change schools every three years it has led me to being more exposed and I've met people who I'm still very close too to this day and I've acquired countless memories and experiences that I wouldn't have obtained if I were to stick to one school. I would want to admit that I wasn't one of the kindest people when I first came to this school because I was still mad at the fact that I had transferred from Windows and on the bus ride to the first day of school in seventh grade I was rather mean and ignored Zeina Taher who was trying to get to know me at the time but were good friends now. I'm glad I'm a part of this school because on the first day of seventh grade I sat down next Omar Sherif and asked him "Is this your first year here" he replied "Yes, First year for you?" "Yes” and we've been best friends since.
